Repair Guide

Video guides for repairing and maintaining your GLORB.

You can find all videos in the full GLORB Repair Guide Playlist on YouTube.

How to Open the GLORB

The GLORB consists of six rows of panels, arranged into three sections with two rows per section. Each row contains 5, 15, 20, 20, 15, and 5 individual panels, respectively.

To open the GLORB, it needs to be cracked open and gently bent upward along one of the seams between the sections.

The GLORB’s parts are durable, but take care not to leave visible marks on the panel edges.

  1. Count two rows from the top of the GLORB (the side opposite the cable) and identify the seam that runs horizontally around the lamp.
  2. Drop the GLORB on that seam onto a semi-soft surface (a carpeted floor works well) from a height of about 20 cm / 8 inches.
  3. Once a gap appears along the chosen seam, insert a spatula or similar flat tool (avoid sharp tools or serrated knives) and gently pry it open one section at a time until the lid is fully detached.

You can now access the LEDs or the PCB inside the GLORB!

How to Close the GLORB

  1. Attach each panel by gently pushing the triangular part slightly upward from the inside of the GLORB, then pressing the panel over its edge until it snaps into place. This step is much easier when you have access to the inside of the GLORB!
  2. Align the lid so that the LED strip is vertically aligned across the two sections.
  3. Press the two parts together with even pressure across the entire surface.

It can be difficult to get the panels to align perfectly once the parts are pressed together. If you still notice any misaligned panels, see How to Fix a Loose Panel below.

How to Fix a Loose Panel

This video applies to completely loose panels, but the same technique can also be used if a panel is only slightly misaligned.

  1. Each panel’s edges have an over and under section that should fit into the corresponding inverse shapes on the triangular parts they attach to.
  2. Gently pry open a small gap between the triangular parts using a spatula or similar flat tool (avoid sharp tools or serrated knives), and lift the part slightly to make space for the panel to snap into place.
  3. While holding the triangular part up, snap the corner (and edge, if loose) onto the triangular section. Once attached, gently slide the spatula out.
  4. Repeat the process for the remaining corners.

How to Fix a Loose LED

  1. Open the GLORB (see How to Open the GLORB).
  2. Locate the loose LED inside the GLORB (it helps to turn the GLORB on while searching).
  3. Press the LED into the small white cap so that the light faces outward, then attach the cap to the hole in the triangular part.
  4. Close the GLORB (see How to Close the GLORB).
